Abstraction

All solutions must be 127mm x 127mm and mounted on a 254mm x 254mm middle gray board. Center the smaller square on the board. In addition, carefully scan or photograph your work and size each image to 360 x 360 pixels. Upload the images to your directory on the server. Name each file the number of the problem, substituting underscores for periods and save as the highest quality .jpg format (e.g. the image for problem 3.1 will have the name 3_1.jpg.) Have your work neatly organized on the wall before the critique begins at 10:00. Be prepared to defend and support all design decisions you have made in arriving at your final solutions. Implement all final solutions with paper, ink, markers, or paint.

3.0
Select one of your drawings from Exercise 1. Reinterpret this drawing through removing extraneous detail and emphasizing the distinguishing features. Use only pure black and white. Maintain awareness of the entire composition and the relations among the lines which define the object.

3.1
Using the same drawing you selected for Exercise 3.0, abstract your object to a point where it is no longer recognizable. Use only flat colors, but you are free to use any value of gray. Maintain awareness of the entire composition and the internal relations among the shapes which define the object.
